The Carbone-Dai Le formula for Fairfield continues to be successful to ensure the voice of the community is heard and party politics is kept out of Council.
“The Fairfield community has had its say – said Frank Carbone – Congratulations to my group candidates, Dai Le team and all the elected councillors, who we all look forward to working together in the new term and continuing towards improving our City. I would also like to acknowledge previous councillors who worked hard during the last term. To all the candidates that weren’t elected, I want to wish you all the best in the future and thank you for taking part in the democratic process.”
At the induction meeting, Councillor Dai Le was elected Deputy Mayor of Fairfield. “I was elected Deputy Mayor by my colleagues at last night’s Council’s first meeting – said Dai Le – I feel humbled and privileged to be given the opportunity to serve our community and to be elected to public office.
Over the past nine years, our small team of independents – Mayor Frank Carbone, Councillors Charbel Saliba, and Andrew Rohan, have worked hard for the community, getting Council’s business through, and getting things done despite not having the ‘numbers’.
I would also like to thank some of the previous councillors, who were not re-elected, for their support of the many community projects. We couldn’t have done it without them. And the implementation of many of our infrastructure projects and services wouldn’t have been achieved without staff and our GM Alan Young, all willing and taking part in that journey to transform our special and diverse community.
I wouldn’t be where I am without the residents and voters who placed their belief in me and re-elected our team – ten in total out of 13 councillors. The community has placed their confidence in us to continue to work and deliver more results for them.
Looking back at the moment when I campaigned for the Dutton Lane car park in 2008, when it was just a pink toilet where our residents got charged 50 cents to use, to now having an award-winning designed Dutton Lane Centre and more car parking spaces – I know that the advocacy work I did, made a difference.
I want to acknowledge Frank Carbone’s strength, vision, and leadership in driving the change our community sees in our city today. His unprecedented Mayoral results and the election of six new councillors under his belt are a testament to the people’s vote of confidence in our work.
I would also like to thank the newly elected councillors – Kevin Lam, Ugo Morvillo, Marie Saliba, Michael Mijatovic, Milovan Karajcic, and Reni Barkho for their support in electing me as Deputy Mayor. And to hubby and son. I’m grateful they have supported my journey and allowed me to do what I do – serving the public.
There’s still more to be done. I’m determined to continue my hard work in bringing our community together, support their aspirations and dreams and make us proud that we live in one of the most diverse and inclusive Councils in the country – Fairfield City Council.”
