Due anni di chiacchierate!

Sydney’s Italian Language and Culture Group celebrated two years of its monthly event ‘Caffe e Chiacchierate’ recently. The two-year anniversary of the popular event welcomed Italian community leaders such as Giovanni Albanese, Angelina Bonifacio and a special guest appearance by City Of Ryde independent Councillor Roy Maggio!

The ‘capacity’ event was held at Patio Cafe’ Putney in Sydney’s Northwest, where host Liliana Pezzutti decorated the space with ‘il tricolore’ decor and donated free Cannoli to the attendees.

Founder and director of the Italian Language and Culture Group, Alberto Macchione, Due anni di chiacchierate! earned the nickname ‘il Capo’ for running this and similar events all over the Sydney basin. Alberto said that the “The monthly event was first held as a ‘language exchange’ to promote and preserve Italian”. He added that “The event developed the more important function of creating an opportunity for Italophiles, Italians and the broader community an opportunity to engage in social and cross-cultural connections”.

Giovanni Albanese, who, himself contributes so much to the Italian community in media, business, events and the arts, said of the group that the “dedication to these events are making a difference in people’s lives” For Sydneysiders, the events are just a simple chat in the language of Italian for speakers of all levels and open to the public.

Regular meetups are held at Club Marconi on the second Saturday of the month and the Patio Cafe’, Putney on the last Saturday of the month both at 10am. They are registered with their respective councils as City events. Other language exchanges are also available throughout Sydney.
