As a result of the mandatory survaillance testing imposed on the people of Fairfield, the city’s major roads came to a standstill, with people lining up for testing at Fairfield Showground having to wait up to six hours while some nearby residents said they were unable to drive out of their local streets because cars were so banked up.
NSW Health also announced that existing testing clinics in the area would be extending their hours, and a new 24-hour clinic at Endeavour Sports Park car park would open to support the new mandatory testing rules.
Fairfield MP Mr Guy Zangari called on the government to provide resources to the Fairifeld community alongside imposing the mandatory testing for essential workers as roads continue to be blocked and Police stepped in to manage traffic flow.
“I support measures to keep the community safe, however I have to be honest when I say that this is total madness,” noted the MP
“As a local Fairfield MP I am not going to cop the blaming and finger pointing of these great people we have the honour of representing. They are doing the right thing to get tested yet have to wait for hours.”
“We said to the government today to put more resources in place for this great people, and yet they are here now waiting for many hours as a result of the government not putting in enough resources,” Mr Zangari said.
The latest mandatory testing regime that applies to residents of the Fairfield LGA demands that those who perform essential work outside of the local government area must test every three days.
“Hard working Fairfield residents [are] expected to wait to get tested into the early hours of the morning then expected to go to work.”
“My Labor colleagues and I called for greater resources for the community in the wake of the three day testing measures for workers. Tonight’s footage supports our call,” concluded Mr Zangari.
