Lismore is set to come alive this winter with a rich and colourful celebration of culture, community and connection. At the heart of the seasonal festivities is LisAmore!, the Northern Rivers’ much-loved tribute to Italian heritage, which will take centre stage on Sunday 6 July at the Lismore Turf Club. From food to film, lanterns to language, the weeks leading up to LisAmore! promise to turn the city and its surrounding villages into a true Winter of Wonder.
The festival season begins with one of Lismore’s most iconic events — the Lantern Parade on Saturday 21 June. This beloved community celebration will light up the city with dazzling lanterns, live music and magical moments, capturing the creative spirit of the Northern Rivers. Just a week later, on Saturday 28 June, food lovers can roll up their sleeves for a hands-on Italian cooking class at the Lismore Showground. Led by Sabrina and Daniele Vitelli of La Romana Ballina, the workshop will teach participants how to make traditional gnocchi and sweet maritozzi, followed by a shared lunch. Bookings are essential for this delicious event.
Film enthusiasts are in for a treat on Sunday 29 June, with the Italian Film Festival taking place at the charming Nimbin Bush Theatre. Guests can relax in a cosy atmosphere and enjoy a curated selection of Italian cinema that celebrates the richness of Italian storytelling.
Then, on Saturday 5 July, the eve of LisAmore!, visitors can immerse themselves in language and culture with a free Italian lesson hosted by Paola from Community Languages Australia, followed by an elegant dinner at Invercauld House, featuring special guests and warm hospitality. LisAmore!, will be held on Sunday 6 July from 10am to 3pm. For one joyful day, the Lismore Turf Club will be transformed into a bustling Italian piazza filled with traditional music, dancing, food stalls, games, classic cars and cultural exhibits. Entry is by donation, and families are encouraged to come along and enjoy a full day of entertainment and community celebration.
Visitors can venture into the hinterland for the Channon Craft Market on Sunday 13 July. Nestled in the hills, this iconic market features local artisans, handmade treasures, fresh produce and live music — the perfect way to extend your winter escape in Lismore.
“This winter is shaping up to be something truly special,” said Festival Manager Aliison Kelly. “LisAmore! is the heart of the celebration, but together with our amazing community partners, we’ve created a season full of reasons to visit, explore, and fall in love with Lismore all over again.
Whether you’re passionate about food, curious about language, enchanted by folklore or simply looking for something fun for the family, Lismore invites you to experience a winter like no other.
