NSW is home to a plethora of multicultural media. The diasporas from various backgrounds continue to publish periodical newspapers and magazines in different languages in Sydney as well as in other major metropolitan cities across Australia.
These media outlets significantly impact the lives of thousands of people and communities, as the main source of news. They play an essential role in disseminating information, uplifting the lives of many existing and emerging migrant groups, helping them to better integrate and become a vibrant part of the multicultural society.
“To improve these community journalists’ knowledge and skills and help achieve higher professional excellence, Suprovat Sydney is organising a series of six workshops for the people working in various ethnic and community media in Australia,” said Md Abdullah Yousuf, Editor-in-Chief of Suprovat.
Suprovat Sydney is the leading Bengali community media published from Sydney for more than a decade and is the organiser of the workshop series, made possible through the support of Multicultural NSW.
“These workshops will be moderated by professional journalists, academics and legal experts. The range of topics in these online workshops will cover the practice of journalism, impacts on society, ethical issues, legal aspects, and various other aspects of journalism such as avoiding defamation. All participants will receive a Professional Development Certificate at the end of the series,” said Yousuf.
The six workshops run over Zoom and take place on consequent Fridays and Sundays, 6-7pm, (Australian Eastern Standard Time) throughout the month of July. Participants can join the workshops by contacting Mr Md Abdullah Yousuf at suprovat.ceo@gmail.com or on 0423 031 546.
