In a Christmas video message addressed to Italians in Italy and abroad, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni offered words of unity, reflection and encouragement, centring her address on the symbolism of the Nativity scene as a shared cultural heritage.
“I want to extend a sincere greeting to all Italians,” Meloni said, addressing those celebrating Christmas with family, those working through the holidays, and those carrying worries or seeking a moment of peace. Speaking in front of a Nativity scene, she described it as the symbol that most clearly recalls the meaning of Christmas.
Recalling a message she first shared years ago, the Prime Minister reiterated her belief in what she called a “Nativity revolution”. “The Nativity scene imposes nothing on anyone,” she said. “It tells a story, preserves values and strengthens our roots. And a nation that knows its roots is a nation that is not afraid of dialogue or of the future.”
Meloni stressed that, regardless of personal faith, the Nativity conveys universal values such as dignity, responsibility, respect for life and care for the most vulnerable. “These are the values that have shaped our community,” she said, adding that they deserve to be safeguarded rather than set aside out of fashion or fear.
She concluded by urging Italians to take pride in their identity and in the universal message of love and peace associated with Christmas. “May this Christmas bring light, calm and strength to everyone,” Meloni said, encouraging citizens to look ahead with confidence while remembering those in need and, above all, remembering who they are.
