The two-rolls toilet paper limit is back

Woolworths and Coles have both reinstated a purchase limit of two toilet paper packs per customer across New South Wales, both in-store and online.

The move follows continuing panic buying in some areas during the 14-day lockdown in NSW.

Woolworths general manager for NSW, Michael Mackenzie, said, “We understand this is an uncertain time in New South Wales, but we want to reassure customers our stores will remain open throughout the lockdown”.

“We have plenty of stock in our supply chain, and our team members will be hard at work making sure it flows into our stores in large volumes for our customers,” he said.

“As always, we encourage our customers to be mindful of others in the community and buy only what they need.

“We also ask customers to follow all social distancing and COVIDsafe measures in our stores and to treat our team members with respect as we work through this unsettling time together.”

The Woolworths statement said there was additional monitoring of social distancing in stores and more staff were engaged in cleaning and wiping down trolleys.

“In line with NSW Government directives, all customers and team members are expected to wear face masks in Woolworths stores,” the statement said.

The Coles statement, which followed the announcement of a two-week lockdown, said all Coles supermarkets, liquor and Coles Express sites would stay open during this time.

“We have increased the frequency of cleaning in high touchpoint areas including self-checkout screens and keypads, in addition to our existing safety and hygiene measures in stores to help keep our customers and team members safe,” the statement said.

“We will continue monitoring customer numbers and encourage them to use the sanitising stations at the entrance to our stores, which include hand sanitiser and disinfectant wipes for trolleys, before they enter.

“We also ask that customers check-in each time they visit our stores by scanning the QR Codes on display at the front of the store, above the sanitiser stations within the store, or at the checkouts.

The statement said, in line with the government’s requirement to wear a mask indoors except when at home, customers were asked to ensure they were wearing a face mask before entering any Coles store unless they have an exemption – “and the same rules apply to our team”.
