The Excelsia Chamber Orchestra are performing a free concert featuring Italian Classical music in Balmain Town Hall in Sydney’s inner west.
The local community string orchestra is dedicated to enriching the community through the power of music. Their chamber orchestra, comprised mainly of young musicians, have meticulously prepared a captivating classical music program titled “SERENADING ITALIA”, in honour of the rich history and beautiful culture of Italy.
The orchestra will be performing classic pieces composed by Heinrich Biber, Giacomo Puccini, Ottorino Respighi, and Pyotr Tchaikovsky. When asked why these pieces of music are important, esteemed Conductor Sadaharu Muramatsu said that “the theme of Italy exerts a profound influence on classical music.
While there are certainly celebrated Italian composers, my concept doesn’t limit itself to them alone.
Many composers from diverse backgrounds have been inspired by Italian culture – think of Tchaikovsky, for instance. In curating our program, I’ve intentionally woven together various colours of Italian sounds, embracing both native and non-Italian composers”.
Muramatsu is a seasoned conductor whose fascination with conducting began in High School. “Fortunately, I had the opportunity to lead our school orchestra or band – a pivotal moment that solidified my passion. Subsequently, I made the decision to pursue a Masters of Music in Conducting in the UK.”
Excelsia Chamber Orchestra is a community string ensemble based at Excelsia College in Macquarie Park, under the leadership of founder and conductor Dr. Sadaharu Muramatsu. They have approximately 20 young musicians. The orchestra is dedicated to enriching the community through the power of music, and they have performed at Excelsia College, local churches, and in the Utzon Room at the Sydney Opera House recently.
Serenading Italia is free to attend thanks to Sydney’s Inner West Council and will be held from 3.00PM at Balmain Town Hall on Sunday 10th November
