La comunità italiana del Queensland celebra un importante riconoscimento per uno dei suoi membri più illustri. Vito Di Stasi è stato insignito del prestigioso titolo di Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia venerdì 13 marzo 2026. La cerimonia si è svolta alla presenza della Consola Italiana per Queensland e Northern Territory, Luna Angelini Marinucci, e dell’Ambasciatore d’Italia in Australia, S.E. Nicola Lener, sottolineando l’importanza del contributo di Di Stasi alla promozione della cultura e della comunità italiana in Queensland.
Il riconoscimento premia la dedizione di Vito Di Stasi alla vita associativa e sociale. Presidente dell’Associazione Lucania del Queensland per oltre 22 anni, dal 2001 al 2023, Di Stasi ha guidato l’organizzazione con passione e determinazione. Oggi continua a servire come membro attivo del comitato, confermando il suo impegno costante per la comunità.
Durante la sua presidenza, l’Associazione Lucania del Queensland ha raccolto oltre 100.000 dollari per sostenere enti benefici e interventi di emergenza, un traguardo che riflette la capacità di Di Stasi di mobilitare energie e risorse a favore di chi è in difficoltà. La sua visione ha inoltre portato alla realizzazione di progetti culturali significativi, tra cui il monumento “Confluenza” nei Roma Street Parklands di Brisbane, inaugurato nel 2013. Questo monumento celebra l’arte, la cucina e il patrimonio regionale italiano, diventando un punto di riferimento per le iniziative culturali della comunità.
Il messaggio di gratitudine dell’Associazione Lucania per Di Stasi è chiaro e sentito. Nick Di Stasi, attuale Presidente, ha sottolineato come il lavoro di Vito abbia portato orgoglio e visibilità alla comunità italiana del Queensland, affermando: “Ti ringraziamo, Vito, per la tua dedizione, la tua leadership e l’orgoglio che porti alla nostra comunità. Questo riconoscimento è davvero meritato.”
Il conferimento del titolo di Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia non è solo un tributo personale, ma un riconoscimento della lunga storia di impegno e servizio della comunità lucana e italiana in Queensland. La cerimonia e il prestigioso premio rappresentano un momento di celebrazione collettiva.
Bilingual Books to SA Schools
On Saturday, 27 March, the Italian Consul, Ernesto Pianelli, met with Dale Atkinson, Director of External Relations Strategy and Performance at the Department for Education in South Australia, for a special donation of 100 books—50 in Italian and 50 in English.
The books, titled Timpa: A Science Adventure, take young readers on a thrilling journey through time and space, introducing them to some of the most brilliant scientists and inventors from both the past and present. Designed to engage curiosity and foster a love of learning, the books combine storytelling with scientific discovery, offering an educational experience in two languages.
“This donation reflects our commitment to supporting bilingual education and promoting Italian language learning in Australia,” Consul Pianelli said. “By providing these resources, we hope to inspire students to explore science and develop a lifelong passion for learning, all while strengthening their connection to Italian culture.”
The books will be distributed to schools offering Italian programs, as well as to public and school libraries across South Australia. This initiative ensures that students have access to high-quality bilingual reading material that blends language learning with STEM education.
Dale Atkinson welcomed the donation, highlighting the importance of providing students with diverse educational resources. “Materials like these help spark curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking,” Atkinson noted.
Easter Pizza & Pasta Night Brings Crowd
On 27th March, the Swan Italian Sporting Club hosted its Early Easter Pizza and Pasta Dance Night, bringing together families, friends, and regular members for an evening of food, music, and community spirit. The event highlighted the club’s commitment to creating a welcoming environment where people of all ages can come together.
Guests savoured freshly prepared pizza and pasta, expertly crafted by the club’s kitchen team—Silvana, Amanda, Rose, Allan, and Johnny. Entertainment from Piero, Lena, and special guest Aldo kept the dance floor lively throughout the evening, while bar staff Sophia and Jason ensured drinks were always available. Volunteers, including Sally and Debbie, provided invaluable support with setup, managing the door, selling raffle tickets, serving food, and handling cleanup.
A special moment was celebrating Vito’s 86th birthday. A founding member of the club, Vito contributed significantly to the construction of the building and was honoured by family and friends for his long-standing commitment to the community.
The evening also featured lucky winners of the door prize and raffle, adding to the festive atmosphere. On behalf of President Jason Russo and the Swan Italian Sporting Club, thanks were extended to all for making the night a success.
