Tensions are once again rising along the Israel-Lebanon border, raising concerns about a new escalation in the Middle East.
The Israeli military has issued an urgent warning to residents of southern Lebanon, advising them not to travel south of the Zahrani River until further notice. The announcement was released through official military channels as Israeli operations against Hezbollah targets continue in the region.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), military activities remain ongoing in southern Lebanon, where Israeli forces are targeting infrastructure and facilities allegedly linked to Hezbollah in or near local villages.
“The area remains an active combat zone. Anyone traveling south of the Zahrani River is putting their life at risk,” the military said in its statement.
The Zahrani River lies approximately halfway between the Israeli border and the Lebanese coastal city of Sidon, making it a strategically significant area in southern Lebanon.
At the same time, Israeli officials have delivered strong warnings regarding future military action.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the current ceasefire does not restrict Israel’s ability to respond to attacks and that the military retains the freedom to strike targets in Beirut if Hezbollah launches attacks against Israeli territory or communities.
“With American backing, Israel maintains the freedom of action to strike Beirut in response to attacks on Israeli communities and territory,” Katz said.
The statement underscores Israel’s determination to maintain military pressure on Hezbollah despite ongoing ceasefire arrangements.
Criticism of the ceasefire has also come from former Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, leader of the Yisrael Beiteinu party.
Writing on social media, Lieberman argued that the ceasefire provides Hezbollah with valuable time to regroup and rebuild its military capabilities.
“This is a return to the concept that led us to October 7,” Lieberman wrote, adding that “the battle must be decisively concluded and Hezbollah must be eliminated.”
The comments highlight growing political pressure within Israel for a tougher military approach toward the Iranian-backed Lebanese armed group.
Regional observers warn that the situation remains highly volatile. Any renewed exchange of fire along the border could quickly escalate into a broader conflict, potentially drawing Beirut directly into the confrontation and further destabilizing an already fragile Middle East.
The coming hours and days will be closely watched by the international community as efforts to maintain the ceasefire face increasing strain.
