Brunetti Classico flagship at Melbourne Airport

Brunetti Classico has officially expanded its presence at Melbourne Airport, opening a major new venue in Terminal 1 in December 2025, just in time for the busy summer travel period.

The opening marked the brand’s third airport location, joining its existing venues in Terminal 2 (International) and Terminal 4 (Budget Domestic). With the addition of Terminal 1, Brunetti Classico has completed its footprint across the airport’s main passenger terminals, a significant milestone for the Melbourne institution that has been part of the city’s food culture since 1985.

Located near Gate 1, the new venue covers more than 1,000 square metres and was designed by long-time collaborators Technē Architecture + Interior Design. The space blends traditional Italian café culture with contemporary airport design, creating what the brand describes as a “high street” experience within the terminal, separate from the main food court.

The development features three interconnected areas: a 350-square-metre Brunetti Classico café, a 400-square-metre adjoining pub, and a 285-square-metre upper lounge offering views of the tarmac and relaxed seating for travellers. Together, the spaces form a hospitality hub catering both to passengers looking for a quick coffee and those wanting to enjoy a longer pre-flight meal.

The Terminal 1 venue introduced several menu items exclusive to the location, including freshly baked Danish pastries and pizza al taglio, along with a curated beer and wine list. These sit alongside Brunetti Classico’s signature range of Italian cakes, pastries, biscotti, mignons, panini and savoury dishes, all produced in Melbourne. Traditional Italian coffee, prepared behind the bar, remains at the heart of the experience.

Technē Architecture said the design draws on the atmosphere of 1950s Italian cafés, with warm timber tones, tactile finishes and prominent food displays designed to attract travellers passing through the terminal. While rich in character, the space was also designed for practicality, with accessible dining areas, generous seating and charging points for devices.

Brunetti Classico director Fabio Angele said the opening represented more than a simple expansion.

“Wherever you’re flying, Brunetti Classico is now there to meet you,” he said at the opening. “This space is a celebration of our roots, our hospitality, and our Melbourne story — now continuing through every terminal at Melbourne Airport.”

Founded in Carlton in 1985 as an authentic Italian pasticceria, Brunetti Classico has grown into one of Melbourne’s most recognisable hospitality brands, with locations in Carlton, Moonee Ponds, Coburg and across Melbourne Airport. Known for its Italian-style service, quality coffee, traditional pastries and broad savoury menu, the brand has long attracted both locals and visitors.

The Terminal 1 opening reflects the changing expectations of travellers, who increasingly look for high-quality food and comfortable spaces in major transport hubs.
