BREAKING NEWS | Vana-Reese Schuster-Togiatau, 19, Dies After Loganholme Drive-By Shooting

The Queensland teenager has died in hospital five days after being shot in the head and neck outside a popular Loganholme hotel during a boxing event. Three other people were wounded in the attack, while police continue their search for the masked gunmen responsible.

A 19-year-old Queensland woman has died in hospital after being critically injured in a drive-by shooting outside a popular hotel south of Brisbane, bringing a tragic end to five days of uncertainty for her family and friends.

Vana-Reese Schuster-Togiatau, from Jimboomba, died at Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital after suffering serious gunshot wounds to her head and neck during the attack at Fitzys Loganholme on Saturday night, October 24.

Her death was reported by ABC News on Thursday, October 29.

The teenager was one of four people shot when masked gunmen opened fire outside the venue during an intermission at a boxing event attended by more than 100 people, including families with young children.

Three men, aged 27, 37 and 38, were also wounded and taken to hospital.

The attack has shocked the Logan community, while Queensland Police continue to investigate the circumstances and search for those responsible.

A Saturday night event turns into tragedy

The shooting occurred shortly after 8pm outside Fitzys Loganholme on Bryants Road, where the Logan City Titles boxing event was taking place.

According to police, a silver Mitsubishi SUV approached the hotel’s passenger drop-off area during a break in the event.

Two men wearing masks allegedly fired multiple shots from the vehicle towards people gathered outside.

At least six shots were fired, striking Vana-Reese and three other people.

The violence unfolded in seconds, leaving witnesses scrambling for safety and emergency responders facing a chaotic scene.

Vana-Reese suffered critical injuries and was rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital, where doctors worked to save her life.

The three male victims sustained gunshot wounds, with police reporting that they were recovering after receiving medical treatment.

What began as an evening of sport and community entertainment became the scene of a major criminal investigation.

A young life lost

Vana-Reese had recently completed high school and was beginning a new chapter of her life.

Those close to her described a young woman with a warm personality, a strong connection to her family and a bright future ahead.

Her childhood friend Bella Annakin, who had known her since primary school, spoke earlier this week about the shock of seeing someone so young fighting for survival.

The two had attended Flagstone State School and later Flagstone State Community College together.

Annakin remembered her friend as someone who brought happiness to those around her and was enjoying life after leaving school.

She also described the pain of imagining the milestones that they had expected to share as they grew older.

The news of Vana-Reese’s death has turned that uncertainty into grief for her family, friends and community.

Police had previously described her as an innocent bystander caught in the gunfire.

Gunmen remain the focus of police investigation

Queensland Police have been investigating the shooting since Saturday night, with detectives reviewing security camera footage and reconstructing the movements of the vehicles allegedly involved.

Investigators believe the incident showed signs of planning rather than being a spontaneous act of violence.

However, police have not confirmed a motive or publicly established whether the shooting was connected to organised crime or outlaw motorcycle gangs.

Chief Superintendent Mel Adams previously said investigators were examining all possible lines of inquiry.

Police believe at least three people may have been involved in the attack, including the gunmen and a driver.

The silver Mitsubishi allegedly used in the shooting was found burnt out on Maloney Road at Waterford West about 20 minutes after the incident.

Investigators have also examined a second vehicle, a utility found burnt out near Tamborine, which may have been involved in the getaway.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of the vehicles in the Logan area on Saturday evening.

Three other victims wounded

The shooting also left three men requiring hospital treatment.

A 38-year-old man from Browns Plains was wounded in the abdomen and arm.

A 37-year-old man from Salisbury and a 27-year-old man from Cornubia also suffered gunshot wounds.

One of the victims has been publicly identified as Kane Barrett.

Earlier police updates indicated the men were in serious or stable conditions following treatment.

The latest ABC report confirming Vana-Reese’s death did not provide a new medical update on the three men.

Investigators have not established publicly whether any of the four people who were shot were intended targets.

Police appeal for the public’s help

Queensland Police have urged anyone who may know those responsible to come forward.

Detectives are particularly interested in information about a silver Mitsubishi ASX seen in the Waterford and Loganholme areas before the shooting, and the vehicles subsequently found burnt out.

Police have previously said there was no intelligence indicating an imminent retaliatory attack, while continuing to assess community safety.

They have also urged residents not to speculate about the identities or motives of the offenders while the investigation remains active.

Anyone with relevant information can contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Information can be provided confidentially to Crime Stoppers.

Logan community devastated

The shooting has caused widespread concern across Logan, a city south of Brisbane with a strong sporting and community culture.

Logan Mayor Jon Raven described the attack as deeply shocking and expressed support for the victims, their families, witnesses and hospitality staff affected by the violence.

The mayor noted that the boxing event had been organised by people committed to supporting young athletes.

The presence of children and families made the incident especially distressing.

A community support hub was established at Logan Hyperdome in the days after the shooting to provide assistance to those affected.

The tragedy has also renewed debate about gun violence, public safety and the ability of authorities to prevent attacks in crowded community spaces.

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli previously condemned the violence and pledged that police would work to identify those responsible.

A community seeking answers

Vana-Reese Schuster-Togiatau’s death marks the most devastating outcome of a shooting that has left a community searching for answers.

The investigation must now establish who carried out the attack, why shots were fired at the venue and whether anyone involved had been deliberately targeted.

Police have not announced a confirmed motive in the information available.

For Vana-Reese’s family and friends, however, the immediate reality is the loss of a young woman whose life ended just as adulthood was beginning.

At just 19, Vana-Reese should have had years of opportunities, friendships and milestones ahead of her. Instead, her family is grieving, and a community is waiting for those responsible to be brought to justice.

The focus now remains on supporting her loved ones and ensuring the circumstances of the fatal shooting are thoroughly investigated.
