Man dies after tree falls on car at Mount Buller snow resort

Male passenger killed at the scene while the female driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

A man has died after a tree fell onto a car at Mount Buller, in Victoria’s north-east.

Emergency services were called to the incident at about 9.15am on Monday.

Police believe the vehicle was travelling along Mount Buller Road when the tree fell onto the car.

Passenger dies at the scene

The male passenger, who has not yet been formally identified, died at the scene.

The female driver was taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Emergency services remained at the scene while police began investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police investigation underway

Authorities have not yet confirmed what caused the tree to fall or whether weather conditions contributed to the incident.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

The incident comes as parts of Victoria experience difficult winter weather, including strong winds, heavy rain and snow in alpine areas.
