Two children have died and five others have been taken to hospital after a vehicle carrying a woman and seven children rolled at Parwan, west of Melbourne. A seven-year-old girl died at the scene on Tuesday afternoon, while an 11-year-old boy who was critically injured and airlifted to hospital died overnight. Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with footage to come forward.

A devastating road crash west of Melbourne has claimed the lives of two children and left five others injured.

The vehicle was carrying a 34-year-old woman and seven children when it rolled near the intersection of Nerowie Road and Parwan-Exford Road at Parwan, shortly before 4pm on Tuesday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, including ambulance helicopters, intensive care paramedics and advanced life support crews.

Despite attempts to save her, a seven-year-old girl died at the scene.

An 11-year-old boy suffered critical injuries and was flown to hospital, but Victoria Police confirmed on Wednesday morning that he had died overnight.

Five other children taken to hospital

The other five children travelling in the vehicle were transported to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The 34-year-old driver was also taken to hospital for observation.

Authorities have not yet released further details about the circumstances that caused the vehicle to roll.

No conclusions have been announced regarding the cause of the crash and the investigation remains ongoing.

Major emergency response at Parwan

Emergency crews remained at the scene throughout Tuesday afternoon as paramedics treated the injured and police began examining the crash site.

The deaths of the two children have turned the incident into one of the most serious road tragedies in Victoria in recent days.

Police are now working to establish what happened in the moments before the rollover.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash, saw the vehicle beforehand or has dashcam or other footagefrom the area to contact Crime Stoppers.
