A young mother has died after a devastating house fire on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, leaving behind her baby son.
Isabella Nicholls, 21, was inside a unit in Buderim when the property erupted in flames on Sunday night.
She suffered extensive burns and was rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where she died several hours later surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her young son, Elijah.
Firefighters Battled the Blaze for an Hour
Emergency crews worked for about an hour to bring the fire under control.
A second woman, aged 32, was also inside the unit at the time but managed to escape without injury.
Two miniature dachshunds are believed to have died in the blaze.
The entire residential complex was evacuated as firefighters and police responded to the emergency.
Authorities also established a public safety exclusion zone because the fire occurred close to a petrol station, raising concerns about the possibility of further danger.
Residents were allowed to return to their homes on Monday.
Family Left “Absolutely Shattered”
Isabella’s family described her death as an unimaginable loss.
“Our family is absolutely shattered by this unimaginable loss, and the heartbreak is beyond words,” they said in a statement.
She was remembered as a vibrant, kind and beautiful young woman whose life had only just begun.
“Isabella had a smile that could light up any room and a contagious laugh that none of us will ever forget.”
Her relatives said she had touched the lives of many people through her warmth, compassion and generous spirit.
“Her absence has left an irreplaceable void in all of our hearts.”
A Baby Boy Left Without His Mother
The tragedy has left Isabella’s young son facing life without his mother.
Photographs shared by the family show the 21-year-old holding Elijah, who was at the centre of her life and future plans.
Her death has prompted an outpouring of grief and support from friends, relatives and members of the local community.
For those closest to her, the loss is not only sudden but almost impossible to comprehend.
Fundraiser Launched for Funeral Costs
A fundraising page has been established to help cover the cost of Isabella’s memorial service and support her grieving family.
Her relatives said they wanted to give her the beautiful and dignified farewell she deserved without facing the additional pressure of overwhelming financial costs.
“We want to give her the beautiful and dignified farewell she deserves, while allowing our family the time and space to grieve,” the statement said.
The family thanked the public for its kindness, compassion and support during what it described as the most heartbreaking period of their lives.
Cause of the Fire Still Unknown
Investigators have not yet determined what caused the fatal blaze.
Police and fire specialists are examining the scene and remain open to all lines of inquiry.
Detective Senior Sergeant Robert Lowry described the conditions faced by emergency crews as deeply confronting.
“The scene was quite confronting for all of the emergency services that attended,” he said.
He also expressed sympathy for Isabella’s family and confirmed that support services were being provided.
Police Appeal for Information
Police have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
Investigators are particularly interested in CCTV, doorbell camera footage or dashcam recordings from the Buderim area around the time of the fire.
Even a small detail could assist authorities as they work to establish how the blaze began and why it spread so quickly.
As the investigation continues, a family is mourning a daughter, relative and devoted young mother whose life ended far too soon.
