Human remains have been discovered during a renewed search for a South Australian man who disappeared more than seven months ago near Port Augusta. Police say it is too early to confirm whether the remains belong to the missing man, and forensic testing is now underway.
Emergency services have found human remains while searching an area around Yorkeys Crossing, near Port Augusta, as part of the investigation into a man who vanished in January.
The missing man was 39 years old when he was last seen.
Police had renewed ground searches this week, saying they held “grave concerns for his safety”.
A motorbike the man was believed to have been riding was found abandoned in the area on January 24.
Identity not yet confirmed
Far North region officer in charge Superintendent Josh Heinze confirmed the remains were located earlier today.
“It is too early to confirm the identity of the human remains,” he said.
“They will be subject to forensic testing and I hope to have the results in the coming days.”
Police said a further update would be provided once the identification process had been completed.
At this stage, authorities have not confirmed that the remains are those of the missing man.
The investigation remains ongoing.
