Four-Year-Old Girl Found Dead West of Brisbane, Mother Charged With Murder

A tragic case has shocked Queensland after a four-year-old girl was found dead inside her family home in the rural town of Lowood, about 60 kilometres west of Brisbane.

Queensland Police confirmed the child was discovered unresponsive shortly after 11pm on Monday night. Emergency services rushed to the property, but despite efforts from paramedics, the young girl could not be saved.

The child’s mother has since been charged with one count of domestic violence murder. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the exact cause of death as investigations remain ongoing.

Two other children were reportedly inside the home at the time of the incident but were unharmed.

Queensland Police Minister Dan Purdie described the incident as “horrific” and “tragic,” saying the case had deeply affected not only the family and local community, but also the frontline police and emergency workers who attended the scene.

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli said he was “deeply troubled” by the alleged crime and called for a full and thorough investigation.

Forensic officers spent Tuesday morning examining the property, with neighbours describing the street as usually quiet and peaceful. Residents said major incidents in the area are extremely rare, adding to the shock felt throughout the community.

The accused woman is expected to appear before the Ipswich Magistrates Court as police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
