From Engines to fruit picking team MAC’s inaugural Bilpin Run

The Marconi Automobile Club (MAC) has added a fresh chapter to its growing calendar of community events, hosting its first-ever fruit-picking excursion to Bilpin, combining a scenic country drive with a relaxed day of outdoor activity and social connection.

On Sunday, 19 April 2026, around 50 members, along with family and friends, departed Club Marconi at 9:15am for the 64-kilometre journey north-west to Bilpin. The convoy travelled for approximately one hour and ten minutes, arriving at TNT Produce at 10:30am after a smooth drive through the winding mountain roads of Kurrajong. The outing marked a milestone for the club, introducing fruit picking as a new experience within its program of social and motoring activities. Under clear blue skies and fresh mountain air, participants spent the morning walking through orchards, collecting Pink Lady apples and persimmons straight from the trees. The relaxed pace and rural setting offered members an opportunity to unwind while enjoying the shared experience.

For many, particularly new members, the day highlighted the welcoming spirit of the club. First-time participant Sam Di Grazia said the event provided a positive introduction to MAC, describing it as friendly and inclusive.

The Bilpin excursion followed a busy month for the organisation. Earlier in April, MAC hosted the 1000 Miglia display at Club Marconi in partnership with the Italian Institute of Culture, the Italian Consulate in Sydney, and Auto Italia Canberra. The event showcased a range of historic and rare vehicles, reinforcing the club’s connection to automotive heritage and culture.

Member Mick Raco reflected on the variety of recent activities, noting that the combination of static displays and driving experiences gave members the best of both worlds.

He described the month as a rewarding period for participation and engagement.

Club leadership said variety remains central to MAC’s success. Vice-Captain Sam Noiosi emphasised the importance of offering diverse monthly experiences, combining driving events, social gatherings, dining, and outdoor activities to maintain strong member involvement. The strong turnout in Bilpin marked the largest gathering in MAC’s history for a single event, underscoring its growing appeal.  Captain Guy Zangari said the club’s focus on connection and shared experiences continues to drive its popularity, with the Robertson Pie Run already planned for May. Community engagement remains a priority, with MAC next set to display vehicles on 16 May 2026 at Club Marconi for the Marconi Mustangs Rugby League Club’s Grandparents and Grandchildren’s Day.
