Trump Attacks Stephen Colbert: New Clash Between Politics and Television in America

Donald Trump has launched another fierce attack against one of America’s most recognizable television personalities. In a post published on his social media account, the former U.S. president targeted Stephen Colbert, longtime host of CBS’s “The Late Show,” using unusually harsh and personal language.

“Colbert is finally finished at CBS. Amazing that he lasted so long! No talent, no ratings, no life,” Trump wrote, adding that “any person off the street” would have been better.

The post immediately reignited tensions between Trump and the world of American late-night television, which for years has become a major battleground in the country’s political and cultural wars.

Stephen Colbert has long been one of Trump’s sharpest television critics. During Trump’s presidency, “The Late Show” frequently centered its political satire around the former president’s controversies, scandals, and public statements.

This is far from the first time Trump has publicly attacked television hosts, comedians, journalists, or media personalities. Over the years, the former president has transformed his conflict with mainstream media and entertainment into a central part of his political identity, regularly accusing major networks and Hollywood figures of political bias.

But the Colbert case reflects something deeper about modern America.

Late-night television in the United States is no longer just entertainment. Programs hosted by figures like Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, and Seth Meyers have increasingly evolved into platforms for political commentary, satire, and cultural influence. To many conservative Americans, these hosts are now viewed not simply as entertainers, but as political actors.

That broader frustration appears to be at the heart of Trump’s latest remarks.

His criticism seems directed not only at Colbert personally, but at a wider media establishment that Trump and many of his supporters believe is openly hostile toward conservative America.

The post quickly triggered strong reactions online. Trump supporters amplified the message, pointing to declining ratings for traditional television and arguing that audiences are turning away from politically charged late-night programming. Critics, however, accused the former president of once again fueling hostility toward journalists, entertainers, and public figures who oppose him politically.

CBS has not released an official statement regarding Trump’s comments.

But once again, the episode highlights how deeply intertwined politics, media, celebrity culture, and ideological conflict have become in the United States.
