Camden has honoured its local heroes at the 2026 Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony, held on Friday 23 January at the Camden Civic Centre.

Long-time resident Daryl Sidman was named Camden’s Citizen of the Year, recognised for nearly five decades of dedication to the Camden Show Pavilion.

As Chief Steward for 47 years, Sidman has transformed the Pavilion into a vibrant showcase of tradition and innovation, introducing new sections including Sugar Art, Home Brew, and 3D Printing, while continuing to champion arts, crafts, and cooking.

His leadership saw the Pavilion record 3,625 entries in 2025, with more than 40 per cent submitted by young people, fostering community spirit and encouraging participation across all age groups.

Charlotte Lasica was awarded Young Citizen of the Year for her inspiring advocacy on bowel cancer awareness following her own diagnosis.

The Sports Achievement Award went to para-athlete Indyana Wedderburn, who won 15 gold medals and one silver medal in athletics and cross-country events during 2025.

The Camden Country Women’s Association received the Community Group Award in recognition of its decades of fundraising, volunteer work, and commitment to sharing skills within the community.

Meanwhile, Murray Bishop, who has led the Camden Community Band for 22 years, was honoured with the Arts and Cultural Award for his longstanding contribution to local music and cultural life.

Mayor Cr Therese Fedeli congratulated all award recipients, praising their commitment, generosity, and the positive impact they continue to have on the Camden community.

The ceremony highlighted the outstanding contributions made by local residents and volunteers whose dedication helps strengthen community connections and enriches life across the Camden region.
